The Heart of the Matter: Choosing an End-of-Life Doula

Choosing an end-of-life doula is very personal decision. The work we do together can range from the very practical to very tender and heart-centered. As with any other intimate working relationship, it’s important that we’re a good fit. The first step is for you to send me an email so we can connect during a complimentary consultation. It’s just that simple.

Our services are fully customized for each person in order to provide you with individualized care. So during our initial time together, we will be able to provide you with a custom process that takes into account all of your desires as well as your financial limitations. In addition, no one should be alone at last breath, which is why we view offering volunteer vigil work as our highest calling.

The difference between Hospice care and End-of-Life Doula care.

Hospice is medical care that provides symptom and pain management. Doula care is non-medical support that includes extended periods of presence that hospice oftentimes cannot provide. Doulas are part of the care team and work alongside the medical team to provide comfort and support to patients and their families. WE LOVE HOSPICE, WE LOVE DOULAS! There is room for all support at end of life.

When is the right time to consult with a doula?

It is quite appropriate to obtain doula care before the person has entered into hospice, as a doula can help facilitate end-of-life discussions and help ease fears around decision making and provide resources and assistance in finding the right hospice based on client preferences; however, it’s never too late to obtain doula care. As a Beyond Seasons doula, I am committed to meeting you wherever you’re at in your journey.

“You matter because you are you, and you matter to the end of your life. We will do all we can;
not only to help you die peacefully, but also to live until you die.”
